Welcome to a virual tour of the gallery’s first solo show with British artist Jennifer Taylor, ‘Rumour From Ground Control.’ Taking its lead from David Bowie’s classic song ‘Space Oddity’, Taylor has created a surreal playground, and predominantly white installation of objects, whose apparent serenity belies darker, underlying tensions relating to isolation, loss of control and physical and psychological anxiety. Iphgenia Baal’s recent release ‘The Hardy Tree’ has been picked by the Literary review to feature in the book shortlist section. Jena Salon writes that “The Hardy Tree is a dark and twisty collage of a novel, intertwining historical documents, narrative, photographs, poetry, and maps to convey the history of a St. Pancras church and burial ground in London” Available here.

God Forgotten Face by Robin Maddock was picked by Lucy Davies to feature as part of the ‘New photography” article in The Sunday Telegraph’s ‘SEVEN’ magazine. “His images reveal a cast of characters who seem by turns at one with and doing battle with their environment, paying heed to the town’s history as a starting point for mythic journeys, as well as those who stay ‘festering’ behind” Available here.

The Independent Magazine gave a little preview of the forthcoming Trolley release ‘The Only House Left Standing: The Middle East Journals of Tom Hurndall” on Saturday 21/01/2012. The article featured Robert Fisk’s foreword as well as a selection of images. With so much time and effort spent putting this emotional book together, Trolley would like to thank everyone that has helped make this happen. The book is released on February 1st, available here.

This major exhibition was the first in-depth survey of art, design and architecture of the 1970s and 1980s, examining one of the most contentious phenomena in recent art and design history: Postmodernism. It showed how postmodernism evolved from a provocative architectural movement in the early 1970s and rapidly went on to influence all areas of popular culture including art, film, music, graphics and fashion.

The show included images of the Buffalo group, who were headed by Ray Petri, and included the original issue of The Face with the iconic cover of a young Felix Howard photographed by Jamie Morgan. The iconic image is also the cover of our book ‘Buffalo Ray Petri‘, which was published in 2000, a beautiful hard-backed retrospective showing the groundbreaking style the group encompassed through their fashion, music and photography.

The exhibition also included the equally iconic (and oh-so relevant to us naturally) trolley chair entitled ‘Consumer’s Rest’ by Frank Schreiner from 1990.

Trolley are proud to feature in December’s edition of our new local paper, the Fitzrovia News. Described by arts writer for the paper and self-confessed ‘Fitzrovia Flaneur’ Clive Jennings as ” A dynamic combination of publishing house and cutting edge contemporary art gallery”, we were also tickled by the question “Could TJ Boulting be Fitzrovia’s answer to Thomas Crapper?” An accolade I’m sure our original landlord would have approved of…

Very saddened by the passing of Claire de Rouen on 13th January. Her wonderful bookshop, a haven of photography and art books, will not be the same without her.
